These days, sticking to a healthy diet to avoid poor health is an effective preventative measure. For patients with multiple sclerosis, or patients that are at risk of developing the condition, avoiding certain ingredients in your diet can be a highly effective means of prevention.

Sometimes the “quick-fix” solution is the fast track to all kinds of medical problems.  Going to the grocery store and stocking-up on luncheon meat may be affordable and effortless, however, if you are planning on being MS diet-conscious, consider this—many luncheon meats contain high levels of saturated fat.  It is important to carefully read the label before you purchase something that may not be worth the trouble.  Saturated fats are believed to put people at a higher risk for MS.  Studies have found that those with a low saturated fat diet are less prone to developing MS.  In fact, certain countries in Africa have low rates of MS, credited to a very faint saturated fat intake.

In addition to a low-saturated-fat diet, minimizing dairy consumption can also be helpful.  Research suggests that dairy products hinder the production of a certain hormone form of Vitamin D, which is believed to be essential in the body’s ability to prevent the development of multiple sclerosis.

Nutritionists say that vegan diets are a great solution for MS patients, as well as those trying to prevent the development of MS.  Vegan diets are low in saturated fat and cholesterol.
